About / Bio

Composer and virtuoso pianist Wan Rosalind Wong is the consummate renaissance woman. As a concert pianist, her playing is recognized for its poetic landscapes, passion, grit, and intellectuality. Her performance career includes giving solo and chamber recitals at leading intellectual and artistic centers in the West Coast. As a versatile conversationalist of many musical genres, her compositions have appeared in classical concerts as well as commercial specs and animation web series. She is the first prize winner of the RecChange 2021 film composition competition, the Atwater Kent Concerto Competition, and the Quick Bowman Competition.

Rosalind became the youngest to graduate with a doctorate in music from the University of California, Los Angeles in the inaugural Herb Alpert School of Music, where she taught keyboard studies as a teaching fellow on full scholarship. Her diverse interests in story-telling and film media drew her to the accomplishment of triple bachelors of art in music, English, and communication studies. Mona Simpson, Debora Shuger, and James Franco are among her esteemed mentors in literature and creative writing. She regularly appears as an alumni performer at the UCLA graduation ceremony on the historic Royce Hall organ. Dr. Wong is the Henry Brittan and Maxwell Siemans Piano Chair at American Youth Symphony, a premier training orchestra, where she featured as the organ soloist at the Walt Disney Hall. She also had the privilege of performing with conductor David Newman for the recent Academy Museum opening festival. Her recorded performances can be heard on KMozart as well as the program Sunday's Live at LACMA.

A passionate composer for animation and visual media, Dr. Wong writes music under the guidance of Grammy-Award winning composer Richard Danielpour, who wrote the opera "Margaret Garner" alongside Toni Morrison as the librettist. As a mentee of the Women In Animation (WIA) 2020-2021 mentorship circle, Rosalind received mentorship and training from Catherine Joy (Joy Music House), the president of the Alliance for Women Film Composers. Since recently joining the music industry as a media composer, she has completed more than six projects both in video-game animations, shorts, and commercials-- some of which have garnered a cult following on YouTube.

While in school, Rosalind is a recipient of the Pi Beta Music Fraternity scholarship, the Mimi Alpert Foreman Scholarship, the Newfield Scholarship, the Gluck Foundation scholarship, the Shirley and Ralph Shapiro Scholarship, the Benno Rubinyi Scholarship, the Ruth C. Plough Scholarship, UC Regents Stipend, and the Herb Alpert School of Music Scholarship. She currently works tirelessly as the director of music worship and maintains a selective studio of eager and talented students in composition and piano performance.
